POST #3 - VERTICAL SLIT - SLIT AND PRE-SLIT

VERTICAL SLIT - SLIT AND PRE-SLIT

Jim Shepard's first foray into the record release world. This LP pre-dates Iron Press and was released under no label. Only 100 copies of Slit & Pre-Slit were pressed, original sleeves featured hand-stamps and hand numbered editions. Shepard also affixed all of the LP inner-labels himself. Shepard is said to have given copies of the Slit & Pre-Slit LP to: Lester Bangs, Brian Eno, David Bowie and Todd Rundgren, amongst some of Jim's other musical heroes - all in person.

This is a rare record, no doubt; but more importantly it is perhaps the best Vertical Slit release in their catalog. Tom Lax said in a Terminal-Boredom article about his label, Siltbreeze that he was given the master tapes of Slit and Pre-Slit sometime before Shepard's death with the hopes to one day re-release the LP in a more available quantity. I hope that is still the case someday.

This record was released by Jim Shepard on an unnamed label in 1977 limited to a mere 100 copies.

On this recording Vertical Slit is:
Jim Shepard - Guitar/Vocals
Dan Juranko - Bass
Dave Mikula - Drums
